“A Phone Call Swept Her Out to Sea”: Woman on Inflatable Mattress Rescued in the Gulf of Finland
In the Gulf of Finland, near the “Dunes” beach, a woman on an inflatable mattress drifted into open waters while engrossed in a phone call. She was rescued thanks to a group of passing fishermen.

An unusual rescue operation unfolded in the Gulf of Finland near the “Dunes” beach in Saint Petersburg. A woman relaxing on an inflatable mattress became so absorbed in a phone conversation that she didn’t notice the current had carried her nearly 1.5 kilometers from shore.

Two fishermen spotted the lone figure drifting in the middle of the gulf and approached her by motorboat. They pulled the confused woman—identified as Lyubov—onboard. As it turned out, she couldn’t swim, and the wind was steadily carrying her farther from the coast, leaving her with no chance of returning on her own.

Soon after, professional rescuers arrived and accompanied Lyubov and her inflatable back to shore. Fortunately, the incident ended without injury—but it offered a serious reminder about water safety.
